Excellent among Equals !!

These words you are reading are just trying to catch up with the speed of the emotions erupting out of probably every Indian ne every Cricket lover on the earth. What a game between South Africa and India was played at Barbados for the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Either of the teams had to win to prove their supremacy in the game. Their victory would not only be a testimony of superiority but also demolish many notions surrounding their performances under pressure. Both India and South Africa were unbeaten in the tournament up till the final.

India were clearly the favourites but the reputation of giving it away when mattered the most loomed over the team. South Africa on the other hand had made it to the finals for the first time without choking and now had to make the best of it

It clearly was a clash of champions. …. And at the end there was one winner because one of them has to lose. Yes ..fortunately for us it was India !

Here are some moments of excellence displayed from either of the teams !

Kohli who had averaged just 10 in the 8 matches scored 14 in the first over with 3 boundaries and proved that Class is permanent.  

Rabada getting Suryakumar out was a game plan executed to perfection by the South Africans, Rabada had nailed it with the variation in his pace.

Axar Patel’s batting was an epitome of confidence on his part as well as Rohit’s as a captain who must have promoted him.

The throw by Quinton De Cock to run out Axar Patel … was clearly the result of hard work that must have gone into practice. The way Axar was going … remember that would have been the turning point had South Africa won the match.

Finally India did not put ..but one can say were restricted below 180 (176) with Kohli top scoring 76.

In South African innings Klassen’s 50 was sheer class display of batting.

Bumra’s ability to get wickets at the right time laid the foundation for our victory. He was surely not giving it up this time. His tight overs towards the end sealed his number one position as a bowler. 

In the final over of the match …. David Miller had practically hit a Six which was converted into a catch to remember forever…. Such moments were seen establishing the differentiating fine thin line between good, better, best …and excellent !!

India was excellent and it won  the T20 world cup 2024 – Congratulations !!

 The world is one big family !!

Some performances of sport or art reach a level where its appeal expands beyond the boundaries of  nations and beyond the limits of all beliefs. The capacity to experience this joy is being bestowed in every human. But the fortunate ones actually do so. 

The match played between Afghanistan and Bangladesh on the 25th of June 2024 in West Indies had the same potential. The uncanny coincidence is that on the same day in 1983… India beat West indies to lift the world cup for their first time. The joy for the Afghanis wouldn’t have been any less today. 

The backdrop for this match was that the heavy weight Australian team’s entry to the semifinals relied on the result of this match. If Afghanistan was to lose by a margin of 25 runs against Bangladesh then Australia inspite of already being defeated by Afghanistan would have made it to the semifinals. So it was a must win for the (!) under dogs Afghanistan for claiming their spot in the semis which the entire world thought they deserved.

Panic is in the nature of either of the teams Afghanistan and Bangladesh. In one on account of being amateur and the other immature. Like any other the game of Cricket this one too had the rollercoasters with more added exciting twists provided by the intermittent rain and its effective Duckworth-Lewis  predictions. Also the silly game now has some more silly review rules for umpiring which made the show also melodramatic. 

It would not be right to say that the spectators were against Bangladesh. But what the Cricketing fans were rooting for was the bravery of Afghanis … they say that heroes are born in the hour of defeat !.... and that exactly was making the Afghanistan team the hero even before the match had begun. All throughout the tournament they were the underdogs in every game they played. In each encounter they had to prove themselves and were seen putting out their heart to do so. I don’t want to be unfair to the efforts of players of other nations but we all know that they currently belong to the underprivileged group among the Cricketing nations.

Their display today had a mass appeal and a maximum reach within our hearts to the emotion of accomplishment. This satisfaction which emerges only through a dedicated performance is truly universal and brings the world together cutting across the biases of caste, creed and religion. The experience is ecstatic and spiritual where we the people on the earth momentarily become a one big family !!

मेरी आवाज भी पहचान है ...!!

स्वरसम्राग्नी लता, आशा, रफी आणि किशोर असे सिद्धस्थ दिग्गज असलेल्या सिनेसृष्टीत एक वेगळा आवाज घेऊन लोकांना भुरळ पडण्याची किमया अनेक गायकांनी केली. भूपिंदर सिंग हा त्यातला एक. मला वाटतं या दिगजांच्या संगीताच्या गोल्डन पिरियड मधल्या यादीतला हा शेवटचा गायक ठरेल असे म्हटले तर वावगं ठरणार नाही. जयदेव, आर.डी , खय्याम यांच्या सोबत थोडीशीच गाणी  म्हणून या कलाकाराने आपली मने जिंकली ... त्याच्या आवाजाची जादू काही औरच ... त्याच्या गाण्यांची आठवण झाली कि मग त्याचा आवाज ऐकल्याशिवाय चैन पडत नाही असा माझा अनुभव आहे. 

१९८०च्या  दशकात दिल ढुंढता है फिर वही ... हे मौसम मधले डुएट  ऐकून  आम्हाला त्यावेळी वेड लागले होते तसेच काहीसे घरोंदा मधले दो दिवाने शेहर में हे गाणं ऐकून सुद्धा झाले होते. हि दोन्ही गाणी सॅड version मध्ये भूपिंदरच्या सोलो आवाजात आहेत ... त्यांची मजा तर वेगळीच आहे. त्यात गुलजारच्या शब्दांची खरी ताकद दिसते.तशीच ती किनाऱ्यामधल्या "नाम गुम जायेगा ..." या अजरामर गाण्यातून सुद्धा दिसते. मेरी आवाज हि पहचान है हि ओळ लता बरोबर शेकडो गाणी गाणारे किशोर किंवा रफीला न मिळता भूपिंदरला मिळावी ह्या योगायोगात त्यांनी स्वतःला धन्य मानले असावे ... खरंच त्याचे भाग्य थोर. 

काहीच वर्षांनी आणखीन एका भूपिंदरच्या गाण्याने आम्हाला असेच वेड लावले.  ते म्हणजे ...आहिस्ता आहिस्ता मधले खय्यामचे कभी किसीको मुक्कमल जहाँ नही मिलता ... हे गाणं. ह्या गाण्यात भूपिंदरची गाण्यातली सहजता लक्षात येते ... एका दूरदर्शनच्या कार्यक्रमात त्यांनी हे म्हटले होते ते युटूबवर सापडले त्याची लिंक सहारे करतोय  .... मजा घ्या ! आपल्या मूठभर गाण्यांनी मला तरी या गायकाने कधीच संपणार नाही इतका आनन्द दिला आहे आणि तोच मी तुमच्यासोबत शेअर करतोय. नमस्कार !!

Main hoon Akbar Illahbadi !

30^th April 2020 -  Rishi Kapoor passes away during the Corona Lockdown !

Modesty was his motto. Acting came naturally !

Can you think of any single role of Rishi (Chintu) Kapoor when you thought he was a miscast ? There isn’t even one as an exception that I remember. Such great was this actor. We as audience took his acting to be up to the mark as a given. He was one of those fine actors who surpassed the level of judgement and were an asset to the filmmakers as well as to the viewers.

He was the third generation of the Kapoor family and he almost sealed the fact that acting was in their blood. I and most belonging to my generation have witnessed Rishi Kapoor’s entire career. In fact we must have begun our conscious movie watching tenure with Bobby. I remember memorising “Main shayar to nahi ….” But it was Akbar Illahbadi from the legendary Amar Akbar Anthony who won a place in our hearts. The song “Parda hai parda hai is till date by heart like a nursery poem. 

Well the girls and the boys liked him independently. There was no debate on why he has to be liked in any particular way.

In interviews he often attributed his success to the song numbers he got to play in the films. He also acknowledged the fact that he has always played the chocolate lover boy image which bred liking and affection. But well remember all this was happening when the angry young man, the Bachchan was roaring and ripping right through us at the same time. It must not have been easy for Chintu to prove and establish himself as a sure shot success material especially being accused of nepotism …(he was Raj Kapoor’s son). He never failed to mention that he had learned a lot form his father who he called as an institution.

Lets as a tribute take a moment and recollect some of his songs to see how he has ruled our hearts sometime with his nimble feet  …

I loved his modesty when he said in an interview that it was only while his career ended people had begun liking love stories. He candidly said I was getting fatter and older and he had returned the four signing amounts when he declared his retirement. He also said that he was enjoying his character roles now and was challenging himself to do out of typecast roles like the ones which we saw in Agneepath and in Mulk. More recently he never hesitated to speak out his mind in the social media against morally wrong ideas or actions.

Well whenever you heard him speak you realised he was down to earth amidst all the bestowing which made him so kind that one could imagine him to be a friend you could not only relate to but also imagine having him accompany you & your friends one of the evenings.

I think that is the biggest tribute for a superstar actor from a common fan like me.

राष्ट्रोन्नती !!

स्वातंत्रोत्तर काळातील हे पहिलेच काँग्रेसरहित  दशक भारतवर्षाला प्राप्त  झाले आहे. एवढेच नव्हे तर यापूर्वी या देशाला इतका डायनामिक पंतप्रधान ही कधी लाभला नव्हता. अर्थात ही गतिशीलता काही अंशी तंत्रज्ञानाच्या क्रांतीमुळे आणि  एकूणच नव्या सहस्रकात  साऱ्या जगाच्या बदललेल्या मानसिकतेमुळे सुद्धा अपरिहार्य ठरते. त्यात काँग्रेसच्या राज्यकर्त्यांच्या आणि प्रामुख्याने मनमोहन सिंग यांच्या पार्श्वभूमीवर तर मोदिजींचा ठसा अधिकच ठळक  जाणवतो. तशा प्रकारचे स्वागतही मोदिजींचे  झाले.

कोरोनाच्या संकटकाळी मोदिजींचेच कणखर नेतृत्व आपल्याला लाभले हे एका दृष्टीने आपले भाग्यच म्हणावे लागेल असा विचार मनात येतो. इतर कोणताही राज्यकर्ता इतका परिणामकारक होऊ शकला असता की नाही असा प्रश्न सुद्धा पडतो.  Of course with due respect to all State Chief  Ministers and we people who have supported by being patient.

काही कठीण आणि अभूतपूर्व निर्णय घेऊन मोदिजींनी भारताची एक नवी प्रतिमा जगा समोर नेऊन ठेवली आहे किंवा त्या दिशेने वाटचाल तरी नक्कीच आहे. मला याचा एक हिंदू म्हणुन सार्थ अभिमान आहे.

मोदिजी संघर्षाने आपलं काम इतकं छान आणि प्रामाणिकपणे  करता आहेत .... संघर्ष अशासाठी की एक देश चालवणे सोपे नाही आणि अशा पक्षातून नेतृत्व मिळाले आहे जो जातीय असल्याचा दावा या देशात पूर्णपणे नाकारताही येणार नाही.

मी तरुण असताना म्हणजे नव्वदच्या दशकात काँग्रेस म्हणजेच तेव्हाचे राज्यकर्ते हे  अल्पसंख्यांकांचे म्हणजेच मुस्लिमांचे लाड पुरवत आहेत हे अगदी स्पष्ट दिसत होते.  वास्तविक हा राज्यकर्त्यांवरचा  द्वेष कुणावर व्यक्त करायचा हे माहित नसल्या कारणाने हा द्वेष सरळ सरळ मुसलमानांवर व्यक्त होऊ लागला. स्वातंत्र्याच्या काळाची बीजं होतीच आणि राज्यकर्त्यांनी स्वतःच्या स्वार्थासाठी तो द्वेष रुजवूनही ठेवला.

आज मोदिजी खूपच छान आणि अविश्वसनीय काम करत आहेत. कुठेही कोणत्याही धर्माचा किंवा जातीचा अवमान करीत  नाहीत. किंबहुना काही अभूतपूर्व निर्णय घेऊन भारताची वाटचाल ते कॉमन सिव्हिल कोड च्या दिशेने नक्कीच नेत आहेत. एवढेच नव्हे तर आज मोदिजी एक जागतिक नेता होण्याच्या मार्गावर आहेत. कोणतीही वायफळ चर्चा न करता मोदीजी जर ही किमया करू शकतायेत तर कृपया त्यांच्या भक्तांनी ते घेत असलेल्या प्रत्येक निर्णयाला धार्मिक रंग देऊन त्यांची अडचण वाढविण्याचे काम करू नये.

 मोदीजींनी सांगितलेली प्रत्येक गोष्ट ही ओढून-ताणून कशी हिंदू धर्मावर आधारलेली आहे आणि मुसलमान विरोधी आहे यात समाधान शोधू नका. यामुळे काही महत्त्वाच्या निर्णयांची अंमलबजावणी करणं कठीण तर होतेच आहे पण राष्ट्रोन्नती चा वेगही कमी होतो आहे हे लक्षात घ्या. CAA चे काय चालले आहे ते बघतोच आहोत. तुमच्या अट्टाहासाचा परिणाम चिथवून अशांतता आणि नकारात्मकता पसरविण्याखेरीज दुसरा काहीच होत नाही.
आणि तो आपला धर्म कदापि नाही. किंबहुना असे केल्याने आपणच त्यांचा धर्म पाळू लागतोय, नव्हे काय?

 हा देश मुसलमान रहित किंवा कोणताही इतर धर्मरहित व्हावा किंवा होऊ शकेल हा केवळ एक अनावश्यक भ्रम आहे.  कृपया चिथवणे थांबवूया आणि सकारात्मकच राहण्याचा प्रयत्न करूयात.

सूज्ञास अधिक सांगणे न लागे असे म्हणतात ... अर्थात सूज्ञास .....बाकी तुम्ही ठरवा.

किमया !!

किमया !!

एखाद्या जुन्या गाण्याने आपल्याला नव्याने भुरळ पाडावी आणि मग पुढचे काही दिवस तेच गाणं वारंवार ऐकत रहावं हे आम्हा भारतीय संगीत प्रेमींसाठी अजिबात नवीन नाही. आणि असं गाणं ५० वर्षांपूर्वीचे आहे असं सांगितलं तरी आपल्याला काही आश्चर्य ही वाटणार नाही किंबहुना माझ्या पिढीला ती पटणारीच बाब असेल.

आज असेच झाले  मराठी सारेगम कारवाँ वर एक गाणं कानावर पडलं आणि त्या गाण्याने  भुरळच घातली बघा  ... तंत्रज्ञानाचे आभार अशासाठी कि आता काहीच कष्ट न घेता गाणं वारंवार ऐकता तर येतच पण त्याबद्दलची संपूर्ण माहितीही तात्काळ मिळूं शकते. एवढेच नव्हे तर या लेखाखेरी मी ते गाणं attach सुद्धा करू शकणार (करणार) आहे. आता या सोयीची सुद्धा सवय झाली आहे.  हे सगळं किती अलौकिक आणि समाधानकारक आहे. कुण्या एकेकाळी म्हणजे अगदी ९० साली सुद्धा मी रेल्वे स्टेशनच्या स्टॉलवर एखादं गाणं ऐकण्यासाठी चक्क गाडी सोडलेली मला चांगलं आठवतंय.  या शब्दांच्या पलीकडले माझ्या मनातले भाव ज्यांना कळतायेत त्यांच्यासाठी या गाण्यांची, कलाकृतींची किंमत कितीही वेळा ऐकली तरी कधीच आटणार नाही. असो तर आज घडले असे  ...

एकीकडे सारेगम कारवाँ चालू होता आणि एकीकडे माझे काम आणि अचानक या गाण्याला सुरुवात झाली. सगळ्यात पहिल्यांदा आशाचा सूर कानावर पडला आणि सगळं लक्ष त्याकडे वेधलं गेलं. अशी किमया असलेल्या काही गाण्यांपैकी हे एक. जसजसं गाणं पुढे सरत होतं तसतसा माझ्या भोवती त्याचा विळखा घट्ट होत होता. प्रत्येक शब्द, स्वर कानावर पडत असताना त्या तेवढ्या वेळात मला पुन्हा एकदा धन्यता वाटली आणि या आनंदासाठी कुणाकुणा विषयी कृतज्ञता व्यक्त करू असा विचार मनात आला.

तसं पाहिलं तर १९६० हा भारतीयच नव्हे तर जगभरातल्या संगीतासाठी सुवर्णकाळ मानला जातो. भारतीय चित्रपट संगीताने तर तेव्हा कळस गाठला. प्रामुख्याने तिथे काम करणारी मंडळी हि बंगाली आणि मराठी होती आणि त्यात अग्रेसर गायिका म्हणजे लता आणि आशा मंगेशकर.  त्या मराठी भाषिक असल्यामुळे आपण इतर भारतीयांपेक्षा एका दृष्टीने अधिकच भाग्यवान ठरलो नाही का. बाबूजी, वसंत प्रभू , वसंत पवार, दशरथ पुजारी या सारख्या संगीतकारांना किती स्वछंदी काम करायला मिळाले असेल असं म्हणायला हरकत नाही. तसेच माडगूळकर, पी सावळाराम, रमेश अणावकर आणि अनेक मराठी गीतकारांच्या शब्द संपदेला हे वरदानच ठरलंय असाही विचार मनात येतो. आणि या साऱ्यांचा संगम घडवुन आणून  आणि आपल्यात याचा आस्वाद घेण्यासाठीची रसिकता पेरून या ईश्वराने जी किमया केली आहे त्याच्याच विषयीची कृतज्ञता मनात बाळगून हे गाणं ऐकूया चला. या चैत्र प्रतिपदेपासून आपल्या  साऱ्या दिवसांची सुरुवात अशीच आनंदमयी आणि मंगलमयी सुरांनी होवोत हि पाडव्याची शुभेछा. धन्यवाद

As you may know that in my previous article (https://maxreach.blogspot.com/2020/03/stay-home-be-hero.html) I had tried to mention how different people would accept, resist or rebel staying at home and why would they do so. 

Among the types of people who I mentioned in my previous article some might want to know how to keep busy at home. Well here are some tips ….

There are many things about which all the time we keep telling our friends, associates and people who surround us and more importantly to ourselves that I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS. So the first thing is make a list of such things. So her we go ...!

1.       Make a list of things which I would clear if I had time.

The list might include some silly things like clearing an old book shelf or clearing clutter in your wardrobe. Dusting of some old stuff. Clearing or sorting some pending paper work. I am sure you are getting ideas while you are reading this. Go ahead start making your own list !! …. Essence of life is in action is the Maxreach Mantra

2.       Make a list of things which I would see if I had time.

There may be a bunch of movies lying on your laptop or in your pen drive which you had asked your friend, cousin or son to copy it for you but haven’t been able to take time out for yourself. Or probably a book you wanted to read. See you think I am reading your mind. Please browse through the book right now ! …. Because the essence of life is in action.

3.       Now you have time … Please take yourself seriously this time and from now on.

CoVid19 has shown a mirror to all of us. It has given us an opportunity to reflect.  If we don’t live for ourselves then we are never going to. By “for ourselves” I don’t mean selfishly but rather self-developing. We miss out on our true-selves amidst our routine and hyped responsibilities. A calamity like this exposes their true merit and we realize how time might fly away one day. Please shell out an hour for yourself from today. Make a tight commitment to yourself. Thank the Corona Virus for this opportunity. That’s being positive in every situation.

4.       Last but not the least …

Now that you have learned to reflect … please keep it up but remember. Make a habit to ask yourself what new have I learnt in the last week? What new information have I gathered in the last few days. If you have positive answers to this then you are on the right track. And last but not the least ...please remember to take care of your outer and inner self. As you can clean your hands, feet and body so you can cleanse you inner-self with positive commitment to be better so you can do better.
